The upcoming Mineralien Hamburg trade fair is going to be held from 2nd December to 4th December, 2011 with timings for visitors being 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A unique fair devoted to minerals, gems and jewelry, this will be the 35th fair to be organized since its inception. It is considered to be the fourth largest mineral exchange fair.

The expectation is that about 430 exhibitors from 30 countries all over the world will be present. The main purpose is to provide a platform for the gem and jewelry industry to interact with not only specialists and craftsmen but also laymen who simply enjoy the beauty of gems and jewelry.

The subject areas on which the Fair focuses is minerals, fossils, rough and finished gems, jewelry, jewelry accessories, geological equipment, fittings and accessories as well as trade literature. A special attraction is the well equipped presentation of outstanding discoveries for scientists, collectors and experts.

About 20,000 visitors are expected to make it to the fair which has been scheduled just before Christmas which raises the chances of pre-Christmas shopping by visitors. The Mineralien Hamburg has two facets to it, one for professionals providing them both information in addition to a market. On the other hand is the layman who comes there for the Fair’s wide choice of jewelry and gifts. The fair has interactive activities scheduled both for children as well as adults.
Among the activities proposed for children is fossil preparation, gold washing, making Stone Age tools, amber polishing, archaeological sites and flint striking. It provides a perfect opportunity for visitors to browse through and enjoy the treasures of minerals, fossils, gemstones and jewelry at display. This year’s exhibition has Africa as its theme which is known as a home to the world’s most stunning gemstones. The varied exhibits on display include the blue tanzanite, copper and cobalt from Katanga, fossils from the island of Madagascar, desert roses from Bedouin, a trip through Erongo in Namibia which has produced a wide array of radiant crystals. A singular feature is the exhibition of Flying Jewels where a mineral insectarium has been created through depiction of insects with the help of the bright colors of the world’s natural minerals.
